Space Situational Awareness (SSA)
RHEA offers a range of engineering services to space agencies, institutions and companies, such as expertise and requirements engineering in ready-for-operations to help providers to transition their research projects into robust, operations-ready and commercially viable products.
Within the ESA Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme, RHEA contributes to the Space Weather segment with:
- Space Environment and Radiation Studies
- Space Weather Precursor Services definition, the scientific and technical analysis of the European expertise, systems and service
- SSA Information Communication Technologies (ICT) Support (SWE Data Centre and User Portal)
- SSA Requirements definition and analysis
- Space standardisation (ECSS, CCSDS, etc.)
and with diverse supporting activities, such as:
- Space Environment Information System (SPENVIS) commercialisation & End-User Outreach
- Solar Energetic Particle Environment Modelling (SEPEM) ECSS Documentation
- Modelling ionosphere effects on Galileo Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) electromagnetic signals
- Ready-for-Operations of SWE Products
- Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Open Source Software experience for space weather products
- Trapped radiation modelling at LEO, MEO and GEO
- Energetic solar and cosmic radiation studies
- Space radiation effects tools, e.g. dose, degradation, single event upsets (SEUs)
- Space plasma environment and effects (charging, drag, etc.)
- Debris, micro-meteorites and micro-particle distributions and effects
