We are looking for a Data Processing Systems Procurement Engineer to work at our client’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.

This role will contribute to the management of the development of the Payload Data Processing Systems of the EUMETSAT Polar System-Second Generation Programme (EPS-SG) Ground Segment.

You will support the procurement activities of the EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment and will support operational validation, system commissioning and hand-over of the EPS-SG Ground Segment to operations, as well as anomaly investigations and recovery actions in the operations phase.

Tasks and Activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Follow up and report on the development and associated performance of the EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment procured through industrial contracts including monitoring of the schedule versus programme needs and support to the EPS-SG PDAP Procurement Manager.
  • Support the preparation of contracts/contract amendments related to the development of the EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment.
  • Support the coordination of deliveries of EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment, and associated test data to the suppliers and partners.
  • Assess the impact of any EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment specifications update on the procurement activities.
  • Assess Requests for Deviation and Requests for Waiver (RFDs and RFWs) submitted by the suppliers in accordance with the applicable processes and specifications.
  • Support the activities to maintain under configuration control all items exchanged with the suppliers in relation to the procurement of the EPS-SG PDAP sub-segment (e.g. Products Specifications, RFDs/RFWs, Test Data, Processors, Requirements Documents, Test Reports).
  • Participate in the associated verification activities to ensure that full and proper tracing of the verification baseline is performed.
  • Support the Overall Ground Segment level activities involving the EPS-SG PDAP Sub-segment up and until the start of the routine operations phase.
  • Ensure that activities are performed in coordination with the Technical & Scientific Support (TSS) and Operations & Services to Users (OPS) departments of EUMETSAT.
  • Support ground segment and system reviews for Data Processing Systems aspects.

 

Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • University degree in Computer Science and/or Software Engineering (or equivalent relevant discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the management of industrial contracts for Ground Segment Systems.
  • Proven experience in the development of the full ground segment lifecycle, including launch and commissioning preparations.
  • Experience in the field of Payload Data Processing Systems specification, design, implementation, integration and testing.
  • Experience in Meteorological and/or Earth Observation/remote sensing, near real-time, highly available, instrument-related data processing systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant standards like ISO, CCSDS, and ECSS standards, as well as experience in the use of related tools.
  • Experience with working in a formal environment, following methodologies, standards and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of complex problems and solutions.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
