We are currently looking for a Senior Project Manager to support our cybersecurity team based in Redu, Belgium, or Harwell, UK, close to the European Space Agency’s (ESA) activities. The position will report to the Manager, Security Services.

This position will be based in Belgium any of:

  • Redu, Belgium, at the European Space Agency premises of ESEC;
  • Diegem, Belgium at RHEA offices;
  • Harwell, UK, at RHEA offices.

You will have the opportunity to work in a challenging environment with state-of-the-art technologies within the space and cybersecurity domains. As a Senior Project Manager, you will support the design, development and implementation of cybersecurity operations solutions for RHEA and its clients with specific attention to the space sector.

As a Senior Project Manager you will work on assigned cyber security projects based on RHEA or client specific goals and needs. The Senior Project Manager will use a combination of management skills and specific financial and administrative knowledge, to coordinate the assigned projects through their progressive stages, with the goal of project completion within specified time and budget constraints.

On an as-needed basis, the Project Manager will be required to support development of security business and service lines through contribution of expertise, knowledge and experience in the development of proposals and at client meetings.

Tasks and Activities

Matching your experience, expertise and aptitude, your work will involve any of the following tasks:

  • Taking full or partial responsibility for the documentation, planning, management and control of the project leading to its successful completion, on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with Technical Project Managers assigned as technical leads of the projects.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks to the success of the project.
  • Ensure that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and provide regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project team (RHEA staff, partners, subcontractors) and ensure that priorities are developed and known.
  • Facilitate efficient communication across all levels of the project (RHEA staff, partners, subcontractors, and client) to ensure consistency in reaching the project’s goal, and to help in the recognition of any potential opportunities, risks or complications.
  • Communicates with and reports to RHEA senior management.
  • Ensure Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure.
  • Manage the project resources & costs.
  • Manage the change control procedure, and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off.
  • Provide effective leadership to the project team, and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
  • Contribute background skills, knowledge and experience towards the project completion.
  • Build strong customer relationships and supporting Business Development in developing business with the client and in related fields.

Skills and Experience

The following skills are mandatory:

  • University degree in computer science, engineering, IT or a related field.
  • At least 5 years proven successful project and risk management experience.
  • Team player, with rapid self-starting capabilities with a proactive attitude to solving problems.
  • Good analytic and problem solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written form, including preparation of presentations and ability to present in front of an audience.
  • Customer and results oriented.
  • Good planning skills with effective time management and organizational skills and able to follow more than one subject at a time.
  • Detail oriented attitude.
  • Understanding of current state-of-the-art of Information Technology, Operations Technology (IT/OT) and cybersecurity related concepts, issues and concerns.
  • Sufficient technical skills to enable him/her to actively participate in technical discussions with the project team and to enable a solution driven process.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in managing complex and risky (geographically distributed) multi party/stakeholder projects.
  • Proven successful risk management experience.
  • Experience of working with government agencies, industrial, academic and Not-for-Profit organisations.
  • Excellent oral and written communications capability in English.

The following skills would be highly desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of cybersecurity concepts, issues, technologies and risk mitigation methods applied to space, critical infrastructure, defence or large enterprise markets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cybersecurity best practices applied at end-system, application, network or enterprise levels.
