Shaping the Next Generation of European Satellite Ground Segment

RHEA Group’s core components and testing facilities enable space engineers to efficiently develop ground systems solutions for any satellite platform, for pre-and post-launch phases, and for all mission types.
We are leading the Belgian contribution to the EGS-CC consortium, a common infrastructure for spacecraft testing and operations for European prime and sub-contractors, satellite operators, and launcher operators. Some initiatives are already foreseen to start using EGS-CC on current and future missions, including NEOSAT, JUICE, and Copernicus.
EGS-CC has been developed using the most recent software development practices and advanced technologies available. As technical lead of the EGS-CC reference test facilities layer, RHEA Group is the point of reference for the development of testing and validation solutions for EGS-CC applications, as well as several EGS-CC Kernel components.
Designing the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC)’s new preparation environment framework
OPEN-CC is a unified environment for the preparation of mission operations data for ground systems at ESOC. It provides a framework supporting general services and features which can be extended via data type specific plug-ins to cover the full scope of mission operations data preparation. While a single application is not able to manage all data types, OPEN-CC supports a variety of editors and browsers for viewing and editing data definitions tailored for EGS-CC.
This approach was already demonstrated with the prototype of the MOIS and MORE study, which includes plug-ins relevant to the current generation ground data system. OPEN-CC will support the capability to integrate e.g. MOIS plug-ins, provided that they are re-engineered such to incorporate within the proposed OPEN-CC framework.
FaVour: Supporting the management of multiple assembly, integration and verification data sets
RHEA Group is filling a gap in AIV preparation tools with FaVour. As it is a tool to help manage the preparation of multiple types of data needed for assembly, integration and verification (AIV) activities, such as requirements, test specifications, test procedures, SCOE configuration data, mimics/synoptic diagrams, and TM/TC.
FaVouR provides an eco-system of tools to conduct AIV efficiently and effectively: Mission Model Editor (MME), Procedure Management Environment (PME) and the Extended Test Management System (XTMS). The identified design is partly based on an adaptation of the MOIS’ components to EGS-CC.
Strengthening the future market presence of EGS-CC
We are facilitating the transition from ESA’s SCOS-200 (currently widely used in Europe and elsewhere) to EGS-CC through various initiatives:
- Coordinating and implementing the project’s internal testing platform for training and preparation purposes
- Tailoring the project developments to specific missions to increase the adoption of EGS--CC
