Bahaaeddin – Senior Project Manager and Earth Observation Specialist

Bahaaeddin is a Senior Project Manager and Earth Observation Specialist at RHEA. He is based at the Harwell Campus in the UK, having joined the company in 2018.

What did you study and why?

To express my love of making and producing creative ideas, I graduated as an architect, where I enjoyed solving problems from many different angles and make things happen. Soon I discovered my passion for space exploration and that drove me to finish my Master’s degree in Space System on Earth Observation.

During my PhD in Urban Management and Valuations, I found so many questions that need different ways of being answers, and recognised that space helps in many aspects as it has greater relevance to our lives here on Earth than most people realize. From that, I completed my PhD focusing on the Integration of Remote Sensing for Efficient Describe Structures of Urban Land Uses.

Is this the role you were initially employed for?

I started with RHEA as a Technical Manager and then became a Senior Project Manager. This change has given me the opportunity to take on more responsibilities and face more problem-solving challenges.

What does your job involve?

Managing a team of developers, technical specialists and engineers to ensure the successful deployment and delivery of RHEA projects. I also have direct interaction with clients, end-users and UK/EU partner organisations, building strong relationships with customers in national and international Earth Observation programmes.

What is the favourite aspect of your job, and why?

For me, there are several aspects. These are having a great work–life balance of control and freedom within my job. I work full-time on a flexible schedule, both in and out of the office. Additionally, I like the autonomy as I’m allowed to have space for innovation. And finally the collaborative environment.

I love the challenges and helping others; this is what gets me up in the morning. We provide professional services where I am able to contribute my experience and skills to a wide variety of clients where each project I’ve been involved in presents unique challenges and great opportunities to learn more. I love to help people and make a positive change in their work or even life.

How does your role makes a difference to the success of the company?

Being involved for many years in national and international projects with long experience in project management and being involved in space business has improved my creativity and understanding of national and international markets in a way where I’m able to identify successful products and services for the company.

What made you want to work in the space sector?

Space is a unique and challenging sector, and very niche, but with a huge impact on our earth and human life. Being a part of the people helping unravel the mysteries and communicating their work is an extremely amazing thing to do.

RHEA trusts me to produce high-quality work and results. This is a motivating reason to work hard to maintain that level of trust. In RHEA, people around me share the same vision and are dedicated to the mission and targets. This creates a family environment where everybody is there for each other, and it provides me with a lot of peace of mind.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I would love to be a space industry reference expert that others can come to for ideas, help and strategy. I’ve had amazing mentors, so I’d like to be able to provide similar guidance for others. I would like to take new and bigger responsibilities as I can make a difference and put my team and the company at a higher level in the industry.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Exploring new things around, travelling and doing sports are my greatest passion when I have some free time. I also enjoy socializing, going for walks with my family and meeting friends.

Tell us something unusual about yourself?

I never forget a face, even if I see them only once. I can spend days and nights solving maze books and doing graphic design. I love cooking but hate cooking recipes; I always prefer to create my own recipes.
