RHEA Group Releases New Version of CDP4® Concurrent Design Platform

The RHEA Group development team has released a new version of CDP4®, our next generation concurrent design platform. This release contains a new core component, along with important updates for the existing CDP4 Desktop Application and CDP4 Server.

The new addition to the CDP4 tool suite is the CDP4 Batch Editor, a command line application that is typically used by CDP4 experts/model administrators to perform bulk operations on a model. 

The release also features updates to CDP4-SDKJ, the Java software development kit, completed as part of the ‘Digital Engineering Hub Pathfinder’ project – a collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). The CDP4 Desktop Application has also been upgraded to include performance and stability improvements and new features, including: a dashboard; semi-automated requirements verification to check compliance of the design; and a Domain File Store to share files via a CDP4 virtual file system. Improvements to CDP4 Web services include support for the Domain File Store and increased performance.

We’re starting to see more industry sectors explore the opportunities that concurrent design can offer, and these changes will be of benefit to them as well as to existing CDP4 users.”
 

New release updates in detail

The new CDP4 Batch Editor enables bulk operations on a model, such as adding new parameters of a certain type to all building blocks, creating a subscription on all parameters of a certain type or changing the ownership of a large number of parameters. (Explore a wider list of options on the batch editor GitHub repository)

CDP4-SDKJ, the Java software development kit, has been extended to support the Ecore ecosystem and now supports domain specific tool integrations with EMF (Eclipse) based applications. This development was done as part of the Digital Engineering Hub Pathfinder project, which is a collaboration with ESA, Open Engineering, Astos Solutions and OHB. The project aims to create multiple domain specific tool integrations for the E-TM-10-25 ecosystem, which focusses on interoperable standards for the space sector. This provides integration for the following tools:

  • Capella
  • MagicDraw – SysML
  • Enterprise Architect – SysML
  • STEP-TAS to support integration with ESATAN-TMS
  • STEP-AP244  (STEP 3D CAD)
  • CATIA v5
  • EcosimPro
  • MATLABASTOS

The CDP4 Desktop Application has also been upgraded to include performance and stability improvements and bug fixes, plus new features including:

  • Dashboard – See how the value of a design parameter evolves over time. This provides a great tool to monitor the evolution of a design.
  • Requirements verification – With semi-automated requirements verification, so-called ‘parametric constraints’ tied to the requirements can be linked to the design parameters. Users can now use CDP4 to verify whether the constraints are met or not, providing a straightforward, easy way to check the compliance (or non-compliance) of the design, based on fact.
  • Domain File Store – Upload and download files to the CDP4 virtual file system and share them with the team.

CDP4 Web Services has been improved as well, with support for the Domain File Store and increased performance. The previous version of the CDP4 Web Services only worked with PostgreSQL 9.6, whereas the new release also offers support for PostgreSQL 10, 11 and 12. In future, CDP4 Web Services will support new releases of PostgreSQL at a faster pace.
